چکیده

In patients with head and neck cancer, the most common issue after radiation treatment is xerostomia consequences of that, which are affecting quality everyday life patient. Subjectively manifested as dryness in oral cavity, followed obstructed chewing swallowing food. Mostly it happens because death cells gland that supposed to be dividing, caused by radiation. To improve patients’ treatment, IMRT approach has been considered a better solution for tissue sparing during therefore, decrease severity intensity following  xerostomia. The technique allows chosen dose applied specifically on where be, surrounding healthy parts from unnecessary aim this study was evaluate influence Intensity Modulated Radiation therapy (IMRT), different dosage, function salivary glands. For were analyzed total number 87 surveys, 41 them used detail analysis. This based narrative review published articles written English language, reporting results related use modulated cancer. gathered have shown glands can many cases protected or even restored some level, therefore resulting reduced its’ negative effects could minimized using improved IMRT. studies evaluated levels found significantly lower groups treated technique, compared other group conventional therapy. 3D-Conformal Radiation Therapy and Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy Techniques for Laryngeal Cancer Taking Parotid Glands as Organ at Risk

Background: Three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3D-CRT) and intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) techniques are used for the treatment of patients with laryngeal cancer. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effects of these 2 treatment techniques on the planning target volume (PTV) (laryngeal cancer), dose homogeneity, dose of organs at...

Selective partial salivary glands sparing during intensity-modulated radiation therapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma*

Radiotherapy is one of the main treatments for head and neck cancers, especially nasopharyngeal cancer. During radiotherapy, the salivary glands, parts of which are commonly included in or very close to the target volume, receive a high radiation dose on both sides, which can lead to xerostomia (dry mouth). Xerostomia can produce a number of negative effects on the patient’s quality of life, af...

Salivary flow rate and radioactivity in saliva, blood and serum of benign and malignant thyroid patients after 131I therapy

Background: Salivary flow rate (SFR), to estimate salivary gland dysfunction and radioactivity in different body fluids, to evaluate its intensity, were determined in thyroid patients after 131-I therapy. Material and Methods: For determination of SFR an innovative sponge test was adopted and the radioactivity in saliva, blood and serum of thyroid patients was determined by NaI (TI) Scintillati...
